✦ Synopsis

The IFAC Fluidics Symposium IN NOVEMBER 1968, an IFAC Symposium on Fluidics was held in London, England, under the sponsorship of the Royal Aeronautical Society. Unfortunately, we have not been able to obtain a report of the meeting by any of the attendees or the organizing committee. In addition, copies of the paper preprints were not received for our evaluation until March, and considerable delay has been experienced in our evaluation and selection procedure. However, the papers were reviewed, evaluated, and selected on the basis of their quality and appropriateness for publication in this Journal according to our usual procedures. The selected papers were rather extensively revised and they appear on the following pages.

Note from the program, which is also included for reference, that the papers considered theory and experiments on basic devices and the phenomena governing their functions as well as applications of these devices in a wide variety of control systems. In general, we have selected a few of the latter type of paper because we hope that they will appeal to a wider audience than would the theory of operating phenomena. We believe that the applications are interesting, often quite ingenious; that the advantages of using them to reduce system weight while increasing its reliability are well demonstrated. Hopefully, the papers published in this issue will develop interest in the other papers which are available in the Full Proceedings of the Symposium.
