An elecrronic Raman rransiGon (3E, c3As) has been observed between the nigonally split componems or Ihe 3T,,(F) ground lerm of the hexa-aquavanadium(II1) ion in CsV(SO,),-lZH,O and NH,V(S0,)I.12H20. The magnitude or Ihe spliuing (1940 cm-') is in agreemem with that estimated from earlier magnelic measuremenls (= 2000 cm-'). The appearance of sh-ucwre on the eleckonic Raman band can be interpreted in ~crrns or transikns bewxen spin-orbit coupled slales.
