✦ Synopsis

In a paste CA2 hydrates very slowly at 20oC but the reaction is more rapid at 40Β°C. At both temperatures the products of hydration comprise C2AHs, gibbsite and alumina gel after 7 days.

For mixtures of CA2 + CA the initial hydration at 200C is dominated by CA. In the presence of ground granulated blastfurnace slag CA2 or a mixture of CA2 + CA will form str~tlingite on hydration at 40Β°C within 3 days.

Slag addition reduces the amount of heat evolved during the first 24 hours of hydration at both 20 Β° and 40Β°C.
