✦ Synopsis

Abstract

In this Letter a hybrid approach combining the finite‐element method and the method of lines is presented for solving the scattering problems of irregular geometry and inhomogeneity. In this approach, the FEM is used to treat the region with complicated geometry and inhomogeneous material profile, and the MoL acts as a radiation boundary condition for the FEM. The MoL can also treat layered regions. Because of the flexibility of the FEM and the semianalytical nature of the MoL, the flexibility, efficiency, and accuracy of these two methods are maintained. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A novel hybrid finite-element method (FEM) and highfrequency technique (HFT) for the efficient analysis of scattering and radiation problems is presented. The proposed hybrid method makes use of an iterative FEM for open-region problems that allows easy hybridization with other numerical techniques.

The method of asymptotic wa¨eform e¨aluation AWE is applied to the finite-element analysis of electromagnetic scattering problems. The finite-element mesh is terminated using a perfectly matched ( ) ( ) layer PML , an absorbing boundary condition ABC , or their combina-( ) tion. It is shown that the

## Abstract When solving electromagnetic problems by finite element method, the resulting linear systems are ill‐conditioned when the PML absorbing layers are adopted. Traditional Krylov iterative algorithms usually converge slowly or may even stagnate. In this paper, the combination of the inner–o

In this paper, a generalized approach for the analysis of multistrip multidielectric layer transmission line structures based on the Method of Lines (MoL) is presented. The proposed algorithm is not limited either by the number of dielectric layers or by the number of metallic strips that can be pos
