โœฆ Synopsis

A calculation is made of the effects on the hexagonal axis thermal expansion coefficient of a graphite crystal of the changes in the interlayer forces due to the large inter-layer expansions. It is found that the expansion coefficient is significantly increased at temneratures above 800ยฐK and that the magnitudes of the experimental increases up to 3bOO"K can be readily accounted for.

A calculation is presented of the hexagonal axis thermal expansion coefficient of a graphite crystal up to 1000ยฐK using the measured values of two of the three anharmonic coefficients which affect the out-of-plane acoustic vibrational mode.
