The Fourier transform infrared spectrum of SF 6 was recorded in a supersonic expansion jet of an SF 6 /argon mixture. The SF 6 :Ar seeding ratio was 2:3. The instrumental bandwidth was 0.005 cm Ϫ1 . A globar source and an MCT detector were used. A rotational temperature of approximately 30 K was ach

✦ Synopsis
Vibration-rotation spectra of the parallel (v_{5}) band of hexafluorodisilane have been measured in a supersonic free jet with (0.001 \mathrm{~cm}^{-1}) resolution. Three isotopic species, ({ }^{28,28} \mathrm{Si}{2} \mathrm{~F}{6},{ }^{28,29} \mathrm{Si}{2} \mathrm{~F}{6}), and ({ }^{28.30} \mathrm{Si}{2} \mathrm{~F}{6}), have been studied. The effect of internal rotation is not observed, indicating that the splitting is smaller than our spectral resolution. A very weak parallel band observed with a slight red shift from the (v_{5}) fundamental band has been assigned tentatively to the (\left(v_{4}+v_{5}\right)-\nu_{4}) hot band.
