✦ Synopsis

tient with chronic ITP was circumcised without bleeding under the coverage of this treatment when platelet counts became normal. These experiences suggest that the platelets were functional, which is somewhat doubtful with I.V. IgG treatment [5]. Recently I.V. IgG treatment has also been advocated for cases with acute childhood ITP [1,4]. But we do not consider there was any extra effect of this treatment in these patients, completely agreeing with the comments of Walker and Walker [7].

Since in chronic cases platelet elevation is observed within days [2] we believe that high dose intravenous methylprednisolone treatment is an effective means of rapidly raising the platelet count and overcoming critical situations, particularly when gammaglobulin is not available or effective.
