As part of our effort to define the synthetic utility of mercury photosensitized reactions, we wish to present some results on the vapor phase photolysis of y-butyrolactone (I), y-crotonolactone (II), and @-methyl-Au'@ -butenolide (III), all of which lose carbon diox-
