Abstract

The heterogeneous hydrolysis of secondary cellulose acetate has been investigated in aqueons solutions of acids and acid salt mixtures. A marked anionic effect occurs with neutral salts increasing the rate of reaction but the lyotropie series is arranged in the opposite order to that reported elsewhere in the case of homogeneous hydrolysis.
