✦ Synopsis
The He1 photoelectron (PE) spectrum of nitroethene is presented. Four groups of bands are observed, the group ranges being 11-12.5, 14-15.5, 16-17 and 17-18 eV. Pine structure analysis of the first group (assigned empirically as a$, ttccn n$ and t$, with the specific order of the last two being uncertain) indicates that the electrons of the NO, group are distributed much the same in both nitromethane and nitroethene. A comparison with quantum chemical results is given.

## Abstract AM1 calculations show that taspine has the three energy‐minima along the rotation‐like nuclear displacement of the dimethylaminoethyl group. They correspond to two enantiomeric structures and a __Cs__ structure, which have nearly equal energies. The energy barrier between the enantiomer
