โฆ Synopsis
The rate of heart beat has long been used as an indicator of the functioning of the organ itself, and, indirectly of other normal and pathological conditions within the embryo. It has been shown that during the development of fish, birds and reptiles ( Needham, '31) the rate of heart beat changes regularly.
Studies of the avian heart have been made exclusively on chick material under both normal and pathological conditions, particularly in relation to the effect of temperature on the rate of heart beat, The extensive literature on this subject has already been reviewed (Romanoff, '29; Parpart and Glaser, '30; Romanoff and Sochen, '36; Alexander and Glaser, '41).
Although a great deal of work has been done on the heart heat of chick embryos, very little is known about it in other species. It would

## Abstract The study of embryonic events using different animal model systems is crucial for gaining insights into human development and birth defects. Biological imaging plays a major role in this effort by providing a spatiotemporal framework to link complex cell movements with molecular data. H
