โœฆ Synopsis

A verbal psychological distance measure, consisting of seven key human concepts towards whom closeness or distance is indicated in rating the pairings of two concepts at a time, was administered to 205 male and 128 female college students. The interrelationships among concepts indicated generally low-order correlations, with 14 out of the 42 being significant. There were marked sex differences in both the number of significant correlations and in the identification of concepts that were related to one another. This verbal technique apparently yields relatively independent distance reactions to specific target figures.
