โฆ Synopsis
We study the ground state binding energy of the H: ion in an intense magnetic field. Our calculations are based on improved forms of the adiabatic approximation.
We calculate the binding energy, the equilibrium internuclear separation and the zero point energies of nuclear vibrations both parallel and perpendicular to the magnetic field. Comparison of our results with those obtained from the static adiabatic approximation and from variational calculations shows a substantial improvement. In Ref.
[ 11, we have made in particular an extensive comparison between the ground state energy of the hydrogen atom in a field and the corresponding adiabatic approximation. To do so we have been led to improve the accuracy of the adiabatic calculations. Generalizations of this modified adiabatic approximation have allowed us to extend this work to the H: ion.
Let us emphasize the essential point of such an approach: 440
