## Abstract The reaction of [Mo(CO)~3~(MeCN)~3~] with K~4~Pb~9~ in the presence of 2.2.2βcryptand (2.2.2βcrypt) has been investigated. The transition metal complex [K(2.2.2βcrypt)]~4~[(Ξ·^5^__β__Pb~9~)Mo(CO)~3~] (1), which contains a Pb~9~^4β^ Zintl anion coordinated by Mo in an Ξ·^5^βfashion, is iso
