## Abstract A method to evaluate nucleation and crystal growth rates from batch cooling crystallization experiments is presented. Solute concentration and suspension temperature are recorded during the experiment and the product crystal size distribution is analyzed. The crystal growth and nucleati

β¦ Synopsis
An experimental investigation into the crystallization characteristics of ice crystals from brine solution was carried out using a batch Couette flow crystallizer . Particle size distributions were determined by a photographic technique . The nucleation rate %% as correlated by the power law model :
Qualitative growth characteristics were also inferred and found to be consistent with a diffusion controlling mechanism . The results obtained here suggest that early time data be emphasized in future batch crystallization experiments to more accurately determine the nucleation rate model .

## Abstract The crystallization of ice in aqueous dextrose solutions is studied in an adiabatic continuous stirred tank crystallizer with a supercooled feed stream. The effective diameter of the ice crystals was determined for various values of mean crystal residence time, feed supercooling, magma
