โœฆ Synopsis

The study of allozyme polymorphism at the amylase locus in widely dispersed populations of Drosophila melanogasfer demonstrated no latitudinal clines in degree of heterozygosity. However, the data suggest a large difference in levels of polymorphism between central and marginal populations of the species. The results are compared with previous reports on the distribution of morphological and karyotypic variation.

Distribution of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) and 6-phospho-gluconate dehydrogenase (6PGD) in imaginal discs of Drosophila melanogaster was determined. Differential patterns of staining were found in all discs examined, i.e., eye-antennal, wing, leg, labial and genital. By using null muta

In natural populations of Drosophila melanogaster, about 10070 of the individuals are infected by a virus, sigma, which is not contagious but is transmitted through gametes. These populations are also regularly polymorphic for two alleles, O and P, of a locus ref(2)P; the P allele interferes with th
