✦ Synopsis
Haploid male and diploid female honey bees, Apis mellifera, from colonies headed by queens polymorphic at the malate dehydrogenase (MDH) locus were examined for the influence of MDH genotype and heterozygosity on the size and asymmetry of six morphological characters. Although there were significant differences among MDH genotypes for mean character size within colonies, these effects were inconsistent between colonies. There were no significant relationships between MDH genotype or heterozygosity and asymmetry, indicating that genetic variation at this locus has no impact on developmental stability in this species.
