## Abstract Recent and fossil fishes may be divided into groups having both pectoral and pelvic fins, pectorals only, pelvics only, or with a second pair of fins located anteriorly and seemingly not homologous with pelvics. In some groups the pelvics are located near the cloaca, with an extensive h
