have been made of the stress required to cause the appearance of twins in single crystals of cadmium, both in tension and in compression.
The results are consistent with the view that, if a twin nucleus is present, the shear stress in the twinning plane which is needed to cause it to grow is independent of the normal stress across the twinning plane.
