The influence of chemisorbed nitrogen and oxygen atoms on the subsequent adsorption of NO on Ru(001) at 150 K has been investigated by high resolution electron energy loss spectroscopy. The presence of the NO dissociation products can block adsorption of one of the two states of molecular NO which a

Potassium hydrosidc
is formed when vatcr is adsorbed at 80 K on 3 Ru(O0 1) surface precovered wirh potassium. The vibrational spectrum of KOH obtained whh EELS is characterized by an OH stretch at 3570-3670 cm-'; 1~ svx a~ 1340-l 500 cm-' and 200-800 cm-' are tentatively assigned to KOH bending zmd K -0 stretching vibrations rrspcctiv~ !y_
Heating the surface io 500-600 K results in decomposition of KOH and desorption of the dissociation products. The decomposition pathway is found to dcpcnd strongly on the potassium precovenge.

The experimentally determined value of the molecular chemisorption probability, S,,, has an interesting dependence on incident kinetic energy, E,, and incident angle, &, for the N,/Ru(OOl) system. An increase in the value of S, was observed at Oi = 60" as Ei was increased from 0.2 to 0.4 eV providin
