✦ Synopsis


A total of 120 papers were presented concurrently in three sessions, covering the subjects of epidemiology, surgery, and internal medicine in relation to cancer.

According to data from the cancer registry, cancer mortality rates have been rising in northern cities of China in recent decades. In the cities of Lianoning Province, for example, cancer ranks first among all causes of death, with the average annual mortality from cancer being 133.6/105 in 1985-87, ageadjusted ro the IARC standard World population. An increasing trend is seen for mortality from cancers of the lung, liver, colon, breast, and for leukemia, while a decrease is seen for cancers of the cervix, stomach, and esophagus.
