✦ Synopsis
An approximate analysis of a rubberlike strip subjected to the "strip biaxial" test is made under the assumption of plane strain. The application of the principle of stationary potential energy to the problem at hand leads to a nonlinear boundary value problem which is studied by means of ideas from singular perturbation theory. It is conclucled that the boundary conditions have little effect upon the results of a "strip biaxial" test. h = gross stretch ratio ~, = interior stretch ratio = classical shear modulus _ 1 -9; a "stretched" independent coordinate ~a
