✦ Synopsis

Vacuum fluctuations of massless fermions between two parallel and confining plates give rise to an attractive Casimir force at zero temperature. It becomes repulsive at sufficiently high temperatures. All thermodynamic quantities are given by the free energy which satisfies a remarkable symmetry under temperature inversion. The fermion condensate (I&) varies between the plates and goes rapidly to zero with increasing temperature except in a narrow region adjacent to the plates. ((('I 1988 Academic Press. Inc.
