โœฆ Synopsis

HE OCCURRENCE of systemic lupus erythematosus in families has been T P reviously documented. Davis and Gutridge' in 1951 published an account of systemic lupus erythematosus occurring in identical twin sisters. In 1952, Shearn and Pirofsky2 reviewed the findings in 34 of their patients suffering with systemic lupus erythematosus and noted the occurrence of the disease in two members of the same family. These authors also reviewed the literature and found only "three reports of a familial occurrence of disseminated lupus erythematosus." They cited the report by Legobbe3 in 1937, who described eight members in one family and four in another, and by Maschkilleissen and Neradow4 in 1936, who described still another instance.

We have recently observed the occurrence of this disease in a father and daughter with the possibility that another member of this family may have been a victim of the disease.
