2Benjan-h Rush's manuscript "Lectures on the Mind" is a t the College of Physicians of Philadelphia and was used through the courtesy of W. B. McDaniel, 2nd. The remainder of his lectures on the Institutes of Medicine including his "Sleep and Dreams" are at the Library Company of Philadelphia where Edwin Wolf, 2nd was most helpful.

One of colonial Philadelphia's most important men and leading scientists was Benjamin Rush, physician and chemist. At the age of fourteen, in 1760, he took his B.A. at the school which later became Princeton. As was usual for the training of physicians in those days, he served as an apprentice and,
