โฆ Synopsis
In this chapter the participation of young people in terrorism in Chechnya is analysed. It outlines the ways in which two groups of 14 -to 18 -year -olds became involved, what types of action they participated in, and their positions in the terrorist networks. Factors that were conducive to their terrorist activities are identifi ed. The role of violence in youth gangs, and relationships between youth gangs and organized crime are examined. The data were collected from open sources during fi eldwork in Russia. The results show that the activities of the two groups differed in terms of their violence and motivations, and were infl uenced by the presence or absence of connections to a larger group of adult terrorists.
