✦ Synopsis

The Langevin equation is solved numerically for a particle in a potential to study the nature of the barrier crossing dynamics.

The barrier crossing process is found to be exponential even for low barriers in a bath with moderate friction. For high barriers, the theory of Mel'nikov and Meshkov is in good agreement with the barrier crossing rate constants of the present study over the whole friction range studied.
