โœฆ Synopsis

It is well-known that the J-integral proposed by Rice [1] has been given a precise and clear physical significance as the rate of total potential energy release per unit crack tip advance. Moreover, the J-integral has proved to be of great value in evaluating fracture parameters and performing fracture testing. However, unlike the first component Jl of the J~ vector (i.e. the J-integral), the second component Jz of the vector has been proved to be path-dependent [2] which seems less useful than the former. Recently, it has been found that J2 is an important parameter in the analysis of the shielding problem for multiple cracks [3]. In the isotropic case, the explicit formulations for Jk vector, which the integral path is around the crack tip, have been presented in terms of the stress intensity factors K, and K. [4]. For the anisotropic case, to the best of the authors' knowledge, Jk vector remains to be investigated. In this report, a new method is proposed for the calculation of J2, although the contribution arising from the traction free crack faces to the strain energy density should be considered.
