The existence and multiplicity results are obtained for solutions of a class of the Dirichlet problem for semilinear elliptic equations by the least action principle and the minimax methods, respectively.

Let X = (X1, . . . , Xm) be an infinitely degenerate system of vector fields. We study the existence and regularity of multiple solutions of the Dirichlet problem for a class of semi-linear infinitely degenerate elliptic operators associated with the sum of square operator ΞX = Γ m j=1 X * j Xj .
