For more than forty years, the ghost stories of David Rowlands have been delighting enthusiasts of the supernatural tale. His first stories concerned the endearing Father O’Connor, who is constantly brushing up against the supernatural and the uncanny in stories that range from the whimsical to the terrifying.

Another endearing cleric is E. G. Swain’s Mr Batchel, Vicar of Stoneground, the most haunted parish in England. As a tribute to Swain, David continued Mr Batchel’s adventures, in a limited edition booklet that was circulated among a few of the ’friends’ of Mr Batchel. Those who admire Swain’s originals can now follow the further adventures of many of his characters, including the irascible Mr Wardle, the photography-crazy Mr Groves, and the lovely Lubrietta�not to mention Mr Batchel himself�as all of David’s Stoneground tales are collected in this volume.

Although several of David’s tales have appeared in anthologies of supernatural fiction, on both sides of the Atlantic, prior to the publication of THE EXECUTOR in 1996, many of his tales were only available via small press booklets.
