✦ Synopsis

The excited states of some. comp!excs behveen ~olycyclic somatic hydroarbons and chloranil dissoIved in polymcthylmethacrylate have been studied with a modulation excitation s-pectrophotomcter. New bands similar fo but riighffy shifted in position as compared to the Tl-Ts transition of the aromatic hydrocarbon are observed. Regessional arulysis points to the new bands arising from transitions frdm a level in the chlorani: to the T3 level of the hydEa=rbon.

An enhancement of the Ti -Tz bands of the hydrocarbon occurs in the complex. Other bands are also SWR which a!e believed to be due to new levels of the complex which can-lot be identified with local levels of the hydrocarbon or chloranil

## Abstract The ESR spectra of some aromatic charge‐transfer complexes in the lowest excited triplet states were measured. From the extracted zero‐field‐splitting parameters it was found that in each case the lowest excited triplet state was localized on the donor, with a variable contribution of c
