โฆ Synopsis
The Exchange Crystallization (E-C) freeze desalination process is a u and innovative approach to the problem of Sea water desalting . Utilizing solidliquid phase transformations to accomplish the freezing, the E-C plant avoids both costly corrosion problems and the mechanical intricacy of vapor handling .
The use of exchange engines as energy recovery devices permits the E-C process to compare favorably with other freezing processes and to be substantially lower than evaporation processes in the area of energy con :,umption . On both an energy and capital cost basis, the E-C process is one of the most attractive desalination processes presently available .
The operational problems encountered in the E-C process should be solvable by utilizing existing technology . Development work is presently under tray to eliminate the problems which have been i dentified . i n the near future, the E-C process will prove its potential for economic sea water desalination .

A review of an earlier SRF design revealed the need for reappraisal, and has led to the identification of an integral design in which the four main process stages of the primary cycle are contained within separate compartments of a single vessel capable of producing up to 21 mgd (11,250 m 3/day). A
