✦ Synopsis

The absorption and phosphorescence excitation spectra in the SO-) S, and S,,-T, regions of benzaldehyde vapour have been measured. Comparison between the excitation and absorption spectra and kinetic considerations show that the yield for the overall S, +T, intersystem crossing is near unity in the vapour phase.
