was well attended with a total of 175 delegates registered at the start of the proceedings. This year there were a number of welcome innovations. Foremost amongst these was the designation of the first day as an 'Industrial Day' at which papers were presented both on specific work-place improvement projects and the important topic of job design. Other sessions were devoted to the physical work environment; mental workload and stress; physical workload and strain; complex control and job aids; transport ergonomics -vibration and driver behaviour; human errorreliability in systems; man-computer interaction; protective clothing; ergonomics cost-benefits; and inspection and monitoring.
