✦ Synopsis

The Chicano or Mexican American population has grown by 53% over the past decade and is expected to continue to increase at a similar pace past the year 2000. This article is a descriptive analysis of recent U.S. Census demographic population estimates for Chicanos. Several demographic variables were examined: immigration, language, education, family, geographic distribution, socioeconomic issues, and age. This analysis raised several critical implications for counseling, research, and policy for the Chicano population.
