✦ Synopsis
The nitrate ion oxidation at platinum electrodes from AgNO, in acetonitrile soIutions has been studied under a wide range of experimental conditions. LiCIOL O-4 M was used as supporting electrolyte. Coulommetry, steady state polarization curves in unstirred solutions, rotating disk electrode and chronopotentiometry were employed as electrochemical techniques to analyse the electrode reaction. During the electrolysis AgZ+ ions were detected. Ags+ is obtained through a nitrate catalytic reaction pathway according to: NO; + M = M(NOs) +6e-M(N0,) + Ag+ = NOsAg+.

The kinetics of the electrochemical oxidation of NO,-ion dissolved in DMSO has been studied on Pt electrodes at temperature ranging from 25 to 44'C, by means of potentiostatic E/Icurves and by relaxation techniques. The oxidation reaction is explained in terms of a consecutive reaction scheme which
