✦ Synopsis

The solutions formed when C02-Hz0 mixtures are equilibrated with the ternary alkali metal carbonate eutectic at 46O'C have been studied electrochemically. Cyclic voltammet.ry and chronopotentiometry revealed interactions between these gases and the solvent to form bicarbonate ions. The reduction of these ions was studied by cyclic voltammetry using scan rates upto 200 V s-I. These measurements showed 349 reaction to form hydrogen molecules.
