β¦ Synopsis
The electrical conductivities of three quaternary polyamine iodide/AgI solid electrolytes are reported. The solid electrolyte systems investigated are (i) N,N,N,N',N',N'-hexamethyl-1,3-propylenediamine diiodide/AgI (NPDI), (ii) N,N,Nfl,N'.N'-hexamethyl-1,4_butylenediamine diiodide/AgI (NBUD) and N,N,N~,N",N",N"-heptamethyl-N'-hydro-diethylenetriamine triiodide/AgI (TRIM). The NPDI, NBUD and TRIM systems show maxima in their ionic conductivities of 0.030,0.023 and 0.029 R-' cm-' for electrolyte phases containing Agl concentrations of 92.5, 91.5 and 93.5 mol.%, respectively. Activation energies for conduction over the temperature range ZO-90Β°C vary between 16.68 and 19.52 kJ molF' for the three systems. A brief description of the structures of six individual phases isolated from quaternary polyamine iodide/AgI electrolyte systems is given with particular reference to the conductivity as a function of the ratio of the number of I-polyhedra to Ag+ ions in each structure.
