โฆ Synopsis
This paper discusses two topping cycle steam turbine cogeaeratioa systems that caa be used to simultaneously produce electricity and water. The water desalination plant selected for detailed comparison in this paper is the well-kaowa multistage flash (HSF) evaporator cycle which uses brine recirculation and high temperature additives for scale protection at 233F maximum brine temperature. This paper mentions briefly the impact of expected future fuel prices oa the design of the cogeaeratioa systems under consideration and factors which would further improve the thermal efficiency of both power and desalination plants.
The fuel chargeable to power (FCP) is determined in two cases:
o Backpressure turbine/muitistage flash scheme o Extraction turbine/multistage flash scheme
The relation between the cogeaeratioa index in kWh per million Btu to the process, steam turbine backpressure. and power to water ratio are discussed.
