## Abstract Delay ripples of chirpedβfiber Bragg grating (CFBG), which can compensate 200βkmβlong fiber's dispersion, is detailedly analyzed. A numerical simulation of the delay ripple of cascaded gratings is done using SchrΓΆdinger's equation and is compared with an experiment using a 1000βkm trans

β¦ Synopsis
When the transmission signal per channel is a 10 Gbitrs RZ pulse and the amplifier span is o¨er 100 km, proper undercompensation can enhance the nonlinear WDM system performance. Improper undercompensation or o¨ercompensation will degrade the system performance. Cross-phase modulation plays an important role in the nonlinear WDM system. The maximum transmission distance with the XPM effect considered is far smaller than that with the XPM effect isolated. The performance of difference channels in a nonlinear WDM system is dependent on the input power and DCF length.

## Abstract In this letter we describe the use of tunable chromatic dispersion compensator based on chirped fiber Bragg grating to improve the performance of a 10 Gbit/s optical fiber communication system. Tunable compensation is achieved by applying temperature gradients along the grating longitud
