✦ Synopsis
Adaptation to complete darkness for eight months had no effect on calcium metabolism i n adult male Fundulus heteroclitus in sea water. However, scoliosis and hypocalcemia were evident i n juvenile killifish kept i n complete darkness for six and a half months. Hypocalcemia was also seen in juveniles after three and a half months i n complete darkness but this fall i n serum calcium level was prevented by vitamin C supplement i n the diet. Complete darkness also induced a delay i n testicular maturation in both adults and juveniles but this defect was not corrected by vitamin C supplement.
