โฆ Synopsis
The purpose of this paper is to examine the effect of computer-related assignments on the performance of business and economics students.
The paper studies two types of computer-related teaching tools. Students in the 'Managerial Economics' class at the University of Portland, Portland, Oregon constitute the sample for the study involving a statistical package called TSP (Time Series Processor). The students in the "Introduction to Microeconomics' make up the sample to study the effects of a computer simulation game called Microsim.
The conclusion is that participation in computer-related projects appears to have no significant effect on student performance measured by course grade. Overall academic performance (measured by cumulative GPA upon entering the course) is consistently (in different samples) a significant determinant of a student's performance.
