Abstract

Some aspects of the random impurity problem in crystals are studied. A method of dealing with substitutional impurities having large defect spaces is given. The expressions found are derived within the singleโ€site scattering approach and are exact to c. The effect of โ€œlocalโ€ force constant changes is also considered.

We apply the effective field theory approach to the three-nucleon system. In particular, we consider S = 1/2 neutron-deuteron scattering and the triton. We show that in this channel a unique nonperturbative renormalization takes place which requires the introduction of a single three-body force at l
