The 2v,, 2v, + vl, 20, + v2, 2u, +2v2, 3u,, 3v, + vj and 4ul infrared bands of ONCI have been recorded. A least-squares calculation over a few lines of the 3 v, band of '60'4N'5Cl, with a rms deviation of 0.003 cm-', provided values for several constants of the v, = 3 level.
Bands due to overtone and combination vibrational modes attributable to the imide grouping have been elucidated in the near-IR absorption spectra of small-ring cyclic imides, in which the grouping is in a c/s, ct~ conformation. The spectra closely parallel the spectra of c/s lactams except that two
