Abstract

During a study of the effect of ventilation rate on the loss of weight obtained in a standard moisture testing oven, apparently anomalous results have brought to light a “steaming effect” which can seriously vitiate moisture determinations upon biological material if ventilation with dry air is inadequate. Reference is made to an industrial oven developed as a result of this work.
