✦ Synopsis

Unresolved quadrupole splitting can affect the peak position in MSssbauer spectra involving nuclear transitions other than those between I=1/2 and Z= 3/2. The magnitude of this effect has been caIcuIated for the S/2 to 7/2 transition in 1513~1, and shown to be up to 0.5 mm see-1.

The relative transition energies and intensities of the components resulting from quadrupole splitting in Is 1Eu Mt~ssbauer spectra are presented as functions of the asymmetry parameter. It is shown that the integrated area of the absorption peak is independent of the electric field gradient.
