โœฆ Synopsis

The injection of trypan blue before and during pregnancy in the mouse, rat or rabbit is known to produce congenital malformations in the embryos (Gillman et al., '48, '51 ; Hogan et al., '50; Wilson, '54, '55, '58; Fox and GOSS, '56; Fox et al., '58; Gunberg, '54; Hamburgh, '52, '54; q7addington and Carter, '52; Ferm, '56; Harm, '54), but the mechanism by which this effect is exerted has not been elucidated. Since the malformations caused by this dye are similar to those produced by other teratogenic agents, it is possible that many of them are effective through a common pathway. Gillman et al. ('48, '51) suggested but did not prove that a disturbance in the protein metabolism of the mother was involved.

The purpose of this investigation is t o examine whether or not the administration of trypan blue to pregnant rabbits in doses producing malformations in the embryos also had an influence on the maternal serum proteins.

The temporal appearance and subcellular distribution of mitsugumin29 (MG29), a 29-kDa transmembrane protein isolated from the triad junction in skeletal muscle, were examined by immunohistochemistry during the development of rabbit skeletal muscle. MG29 appeared in the sarcoplasmic reticulum (SR) in
