✦ Synopsis

The effect of the thermal treatment on the superprotonic phase transition (T . 348 K) and protonic transport of the sp Cs H (SeO ) ? xH O single crystals was studied. It was found that annealing at T . T results in the suppression of the 5 3 4 4 2 sp phase transition to the low-conductivity state. This irreversibility of the superprotonic phase transition is due to changes in the water content. A model of the water loss process is proposed.

In order to clarify the nature of the suppression of the order-disorder phase transitions and the stabilisation of the disordered highly-conducting state, conductivity, thermal (TGA and DSC) and infrared spectroscopic measurements have been carried out on single crystals of Cs H (SO ) ? xH O, Cs H (
