✦ Synopsis


The effects of lubricants and a tin maleate stabilizer on the mechanochemical and thermal degradation of PVC during processing have been studied at 170' and 210. The protective mechanism of the two types of additive were found to be complementary in that the lubricants reduced the severity of the mechano-chemical process whereas the tin maleate stabilizer reduced the rate of hydrogen chloride elimination during the second stage by reacting with allylic chlorine, with conjugated unsaturation and with hydrogen chloride.
