## Abstract We investigated the influence of the alkyltransferases (ATases) encoded by the __ada__ and __ogt__ genes of __Escherichia coli__ on the mutational specificity of alkylating agents. A new mutational assay for selection of __supF^‐^__ mutations in shuttle‐vector plasmids was used. Treatin

## Abstract The alkylating agent methylmethanesulfonate (MMS) activates the c‐jun N‐terminal kinase (JNK)/stress‐activated protein kinase (SAPK) and the p38 mitogen‐activated protein kinase (p38MAPK) pathways via different mechanisms of action. Activation of p38MAPK by MMS involves the pp125 focal
